STUDIO RULES
Welcome to Paper Mill Studios! If you need anything during your day, feel free to give a member of the team a shout, and we’ll be happy to assist you. Calling 02077807499 will put you through to the on-site office phone. Studio Rules are to be followed by all crew, cast, guest, and team member. Please familiarise yourself with the rules for general info about using the space at Paper Mill. We will expect that your event / hire-use is that of the one stated in your booking form, please let us know if the nature of your event has changed as this will go against the agreement of hire. It’s really important to keep your event / shoot confined to the space you have hired only - be careful not to spill out into other areas as we are constantly using all the spaces.

MUSIC
Our Sonos system is available for you to connect to and play music throughout the building. Please only play music in your hired area (when selecting device output) and at a reasonable volume. Sonos is available to download for free on all major devices, or you can operate through a device in your space on Spotify.
APPLE TV
Our spaces are fitted with Apple TVs, feel free to connect to them with an Apple device by selecting ‘screen mirroring’. Please do not change any settings or move any of the devices, televisions, and cables; they are set in their space and cannot be moved elsewhere.
PLANTS
Be mindful of our beautiful plant residents throughout the building - they are carefully looked after so refrain from watering them or damaging them please.
ARTWORK
Please speak to us if there is some artwork you’d like to move in your hired studio. Whilst we want you to feel at home in our space, some of our objects, artworks, and other decor bits are very precious, so please ask before moving.
STORAGE
Some of our extra tables and chairs and other items are stored in the building. Please don’t attempt to get anything out of a storage space if you have not asked us first. Our benches and tables are sometimes stacked and we will happily come and help you remove them safely.
DAMAGE
You are accountable for any damaged caused as a result of your hire. Any necessary repairs or replacements to our studio spaces due to damage caused by your hire, will be billed for in full as overages after the shoot wrap or event end. Please avoid any damages or permanent alterations to the space, equipment, furniture, and fixtures. Gaffer tape and other tapes must not be stuck to any surface in the location as it will cause decorative damage.
If you discover that something is broken, stained, faulty or similar during your hire please let one of the Paper Mill team know as soon as possible, as sometimes permanent damage can be avoided.
We may ask you to sign an agreement prior to using the space which sets out that you are aware of the condition and look of the space upon hiring it.
The space is thoroughly checked over for damage after your visit by our team, after which we’ll let the hire contact know about any damage caused as a result of the hire, and the subsequent cost.
WALLS
Making holes in any surface, or wooden panelling for hanging pictures or similar is not permitted. Please don’t stick any tape on our walls as this will harm our paintwork.
If you’d like to make alterations to the space for decorating, please run this by a member of the team before hand and we can talk through the best way to do this.
FLOOR
Any repairs or replacements to our studio flooring due to damage will be billed for in full as overages after the shoot wrap or event end.
Please do not drag furniture, props, equipment, or any items across our floors. Both the concrete and wooden flooring in the building are tricky and costly to repair. Any new scratches or damage to the flooring will be charged at a minimum £200 out of the damages deposit in order to contribute to our annual building upkeep costs.
Help us to protect our wooden flooring by lifting any objects that need to be moved, and never wearing stilettos or high heels that may leave marks when walking around. Any scratches to our flooring will be considered decorative damage, and charged for accordingly.
Please use matting, Ram Board, and tennis balls on the ends of stands, legs, and heavy equipment if you are going to do anything in the space that may damage the floor.
SURFACES
Any repairs or replacements to our studio surfaces due to damage will be billed for in full as overages after the shoot wrap or event end.
Please protect our kitchen counter-tops and surfaces by not placing any hot or heavy items on them.
Do not place anything heavy on our marble surfaces, these are vulnerable to weight pressure and very (!) difficult to repair.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE & CLEANING
Please leave our studios as you found them. This means returning all furniture, equipment, and general tidying before you leave. Please respect our neighbours when loading vehicles and after your shoot/event wraps!
We ask that anything that is used is cleaned and tidied away. If the space is not suitably clean at the end of your hire we will charge a professional cleaning fee from the damages deposit.
It’s a good idea to take photos of your location before you begin your shoot/event to make sure everything is returned to its original state at the end.
The Kitchen spaces are fitted with dishwashers, and there are cleaning products available underneath the sink, just ask and we can show you. Please return all props, equipment, furniture, crockery, glassware etc. back to where you found them upon arrival. If you have any dirty tea towels, or similar, you have borrowed from us please leave them in a pile and we will wash these after your hire.
BINS
If you don’t want to remove your rubbish yourself, we will provide you with special bin bags for both recycling and general waste. These will be billed back at the end of the shoot and cost £1.50 For recycling and £2.50 For general waste. Once filled they can either be placed outside on the pavement before 6pm or left in the space and we will sort for you. Please do not leave any other bin liners on the street as they will not be collected and you will face a charge. Rubbish that will not fit into bin liners should be taken away at the end of each day. Any large rubbish not disposed of will incur an additional charge of £20 per item.
FOOD & DRINK
We are a plant-based studio - our fridges are stocked with oat milk only. Oat milk, teas, and coffee are all free to use and we can refill them for you at any point. If you need help working the facilities, let us know and we’ll come and help! Feel free to bring your own food and drink on site or caterers.
Our kitchens are there to be used - let us know if you need help working any of the appliances. Please make sure everything is turned off, emptied and left clean at the end of your hire. We don’t have any in-house catering but can happily make some recommendations for caterers if you’d like.
As with anything please use the appliances at your own risks, you are responsible for the safety of your guests/team.
If you want to bring in your own appliances please makes sure they are safety tested and that you protect our surfaces with matting when installing them. If you are going to cook something smoky there’s a risk of our fire alarms going off - please speak to us about what you’re planning to cook on the day of your hire.
SMOKING
We are a non-smoking location. If any member of your cast, crew or guest wish to smoke or vape they can only do so away from the main front door and front loading doors. Please also dispose of your butts and ash properly.
PETS & ANIMALS
Please don’t bring any pets or animals into our location without prior agreement with the owners, with the exception of guide dogs & assistance animals.
WORKING HOURS & OVERTIME
The normal working day is 9am to 6pm unless otherwise stated. Overtime is charged at 20% of the day rate per room hired per hour. Location overtime and week-end shooting is solely at the discretion of the owners. If you think you are going to need more time in the space please let one of the team know. We will charge overtime for any early arrivals or late departures from the space.
TOILETS
Somebody will always be on site to help you whilst you are here- we’ll check the toilets intermittently to make sure they’re clean and stocked up, but do let us know if you need anything extra in the toilets like sanitary bags, toilet paper, or hand towels. Please only allow your crew in your booked space and designated toilet; it is possible we have multiple bookings on one day, so please respect other teams in the building. We sadly don’t have a fully accessible toilet or a designated baby changing area.
HAZE/SMOKE MACHINES
Please do not use haze or smoke machines without asking first. Oil based machines will damage our studio. If you want to use a water-based one we need to know in advance as this may set off our fire alarms.
TERRACES
Please be mindful of our neighbours whilst using our outside space. We’d prefer that guests that would like to smoke leave the building to do so, and not out on our terrace. Please ask before using things like BBQs outside as we try to keep smoke away from the building.
DELIVERIES & SECURITY
If you are expecting deliveries during your hire, please give one of the Paper Mill team a heads up so we know to expect couriers. Unless otherwise agreed, these must arrive during your hire times and no other time, otherwise we will charge a storage fee. We can’t move anything hefty for you, or store deliveries in any space other than the one you have hired.
Don’t let couriers or any people who are not directly within your cast, crew, or guests into the building while you are here. Only the people on your call sheet/booking form should be present during your hire.
We can show you how to operate the doorbell in your space which can allow you to let your team and guests inside. If you are not sure who is at the door, please allow one of the Paper Mill team to greet them.
Our buildings are fully alarmed and fitted with CCTV throughout. Whilst everything you bring into the building is done so at your own risk, we are happy for items to be left over night in your hired space if you are hiring days consecutively. Paper Mill is a very secure building, and somebody will always be here to unlock and lock the doors for all hires. Please turn off any equipment you re going to leave overnight. If you are worried about anything security-wise during your visit give one of the team a shout.
EXTRA CHARGES
Some extra charges for your hire may include, but are not limited to; catering, waste management, cleaning, overtime, additional days, damages, parking, three-phase power, any damage to the location or decorative finishes. These may be pre-agreed and displayed on your invoice or may be chargeable after the date of your booking.
After the day of your booking, the space will be checked thoroughly for anything due to your hire that may incur extra charges by the Location. All overtime, damage costs, and other overages that occurred on the day of your hire, will be taken from the damages deposit. If this cost exceeds the damages deposit, the deposit will be kept and anything extra will be invoiced for separately.
THREE PHASE POWER CHARGE
There is an £150.00 additional charge for the use of three-phase power in our building.
PARKING
We have no on-site parking. Please speak to one of the team if you would like an all-day parking permit for local bays, these are charged at £35 per vehicle per day. A guide to parking at Paper Mill is available which details the nearest car park, and parking options for your crew.
ACCESSIBILITY
Please speak to one of the Paper Mill team if you have any questions concerning accessibility in our space. We are an old building so unfortunately have lots of steps, but please let us know if there are any ways we can help you make this space more accessible.
SAFETY
You are liable for the safety of everyone involved in your shoot/event, on and off site. You are also responsible for any loss during the hire, and any Covid-19 related regulations that you may wish your crew to adhere to. A copy of Paper Mill’s Covid-19 guidelines are available on request, and we have hand sanitiser available in each space.
We may ask to see your public/employer’s liability insurance if your team is larger than 10 people.
You are also liable for the safety of any equipment you bring on site.
Please be very mindful of our loading doors - these open directly onto the street and are very high up.
If you do have any safety concerns speak to a Paper Mill team member, we are here to help.
If the fire alarm goes off please evacuate the building. We have one main exit and entrance onto the street, as well as the loading doors on the ground floor which can be opened up onto the pavement. Fire blankets and extinguishers are fitted in each space, please ask us to show where they are. In the event of an emergency please alert one of the team and phone 999.
